Martin S. Bell is a Litigation Partner in Simpson Thacher’s Government and Internal Investigations Practice, and co-leads the Firm’s Equity and Civil Rights Reviews team.
A former Assistant U.S. Attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Martin represents companies, boards and executives in government and internal investigations and high-profile disputes, in addition to representing clients in connection with anti-discrimination and congressional inquiries.
A seasoned trial lawyer, having served as lead counsel in fourteen trials as a prosecutor, Martin has also been appointed to the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Southern District of New York, where he represents indigent criminal defendants charged with federal offenses.
Martin has been recognized by Chambers USA as a leader in the White Collar and Government Investigations field and by Lawdragon as among the “500 Leading Litigators in America.” Other recognitions include: City & State New York “The Power of Diversity: Black 100” (2024), Crain’s New York Business “Notable Black Leaders” (2022), New York Law Journal “Rising Star” (2021).
