John Lewis, Jr. is Managing Partner in the Houston office of the law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. He is Chair of the Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights and Fiduciary Practice Group and chair of Shook’s Firmwide Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives.
Lewis has more than 25 years of broad-based experience as a trial lawyer in private practice and as in-house litigation and compliance counsel. He focuses his practice on internal and government investigations, including corporate compliance, business litigation, class action and complex litigation, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, receiverships, workplace fairness and inclusion consulting.
Previously Lewis was head of global litigation, then became global chief diversity officer for The Coca-Cola Company. Lewis currently serves as a Panel Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division. He has been the recipient of many awards, including the Minority Corporate Counsel Employer of Choice Award and the Cora T. Walker Legacy Award from the National Bar Association Commercial Law Section.
Lewis earned a B.A. in economics from Morehouse College and his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.
