Selwyn M. Vickers, MD currently serves as Senior Vice President of Medicine and Dean of the School of Medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). As Dean, Vickers leads the medical school’s main campus in Birmingham and the regional campuses in Montgomery, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa.
Vickers is a Practicing Clinician and conducts research with a focus on pancreatic cancer. Vickers is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Vickers is a world-renowned surgeon, pancreatic cancer researcher and pioneer in health disparities research.
Vickers earned his Bachelor’s degree and Medical Doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, where he also completed his surgical training and chief residency. He completed two summer post-graduate research fellowships with the National Institutes of Health and trained at John Radcliffe Hospital of Oxford University in England.
