Melvin D. Williams is President of Nicor Gas and Senior Vice President for Southern Company Gas. In this role, he is responsible for ensuring that natural gas – an American, abundant, affordable and clean energy source – safely and reliably reaches more than 2.2 million homes and businesses in 656 northern Illinois communities.

 

As a member of the Southern Company Gas Management Council, Williams also has the responsibility of shaping the future of the company.

 

Williams serves on the Southern Company Gas LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Acceptance and Diversity) Council, is Chair of the Illinois Utilities Business Diversity Council and is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, Chicago Chapter.

 

Williams is on the Board of Directors for United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of The Field Museum of Chicago and is a member of The Commercial Club of Chicago and its Civic Committee; The Executives’ Club of Chicago; The Chicago Club; The Economic Club of Chicago; Business Leadership Council, The Executive Leadership Council and Chicago United.

 

Williams holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Savannah State University.
