Matthew Thornton III served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Freight, the leader of the less than truckload market with an annual revenue of nearly $7 billion. FedEx Freight leads the market in service and quality, with more than 45,000 team members managing more than 100,000 shipments a day from nearly 380 service centers.
In this role, Mr. Thornton provides executive guidance on FedEx Freight’s day-to-day operations, while overseeing the teams responsible for international efforts, transportation, field operations and engineering, among other crucial business areas.
Thornton began his career with Federal Express in 1978 as a package handler while a college student at the University of Memphis.
Thornton holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis and an MBA degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
