The illustrious Golden Globes 2015 hit the air waves last night and truly made a statement across the world. From Quvenzhané Wallis being the youngest and most adorable person on the red carpet, to Lupita Nyong’o stunning the world with her gorgeous ensemble. Though, the icing on the cake was the recipients of the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
Common and John Legend were honored with the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for their collaboration song “Glory”. This powerful song speaks on the civil rights movement and the current movement against police brutality. The message is to encourage and pay homage to those leaders before us that made a way for African Americans to have the freedoms we have today.
“Glory” is featured in the critically acclaimed Selma produced by the Ava DuVernay. Selma is an in depth story about the actions before and after Bloody Sunday. This pivotal moment in history changed America forever and was a part of the tip of the iceberg for the civil rights movement.
Common gave a thought provoking acceptance speech by proclaiming that producing the song and being a part of the movie has changed him and “awaken his humanity.”
