Savoy Magazine has announced its 2016 “Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America” in the 15th Anniversary Spring issue and online. The Savoy Top 100 is the definitive listing of African-American executives, influencers and achievers proactively impacting corporate America. John W. Thompson, Chairman of Microsoft and CEO of Virtual Instruments, is on the cover and featured in an exclusive interview.

John W. Thompson, who is a tech industry icon, finished a distinguished 27 year, nine month and 13 day career with IBM to become the CEO of internet security giant Symantec in 1999. In 10 years as CEO, Thompson’s leadership grew Symantec from $600 million to $6.5 billion in revenue. He was also the first and only African-American CEO of a major technology company at the time. In an exclusive interview, Thompson shares insights on leading the search that led to the appointment of Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella. The information received from over 500 prospective candidates is pre-screened by the selection committee that includes Savoy’s editorial board, community leaders, and representatives from the academic and business arenas. The committee reviewed information on executives from an extensive group of industries ranging from banking and finance to healthcare and technology. After reviewing all of the profiles, the field of candidates is fine-tuned to the 2016 “Top 100 Most Influential” listing based upon their exemplary professional accomplishments, community achievements and ability to inspire others.
