This February, experience Black history told by those making it, during the 10-year celebration of AT&T 28 Days.

Emerging stars who are making history today, such as YouTube sensations Denzel Dion, Khadi Don and Maya Washington, as well as young, up-and-coming filmmakers Nefertite Nguvu and Gabrielle Shepard, will share lesser-known but important stories of historical Black figures in the series “History by Us.”

Throughout Black History Month, AT&T will be showcasing the videos from each of these emerging storytellers about an inspiring figure from Black history. These entertaining and uplifting stories showcase African American heroes whose achievements still hold special relevance today.

The rising stars telling these stories bring a variety of talent to the project. Maya Washington (aka “Shameless Maya”) has made a name for herself creating funny and inspirational videos on her YouTube channel. Denzel Dion’s hilarious musings on everything from fashion to friendships have earned him social media stardom and high praise from the fashion world. And Instagram star Khadi Don has racked up 1.3M followers with her funny pop-culture callouts.

Filmmakers Nefertite Nguvu and Gabrielle Shepard, who recently partnered with our AT&T Hello Lab to create short films for DIRECTV NOWSM and DIRECTV®, also bring a unique perspective to the stories. Nefertite’s visions of contemporary Black life, as seen in her debut feature film, “In the Morning,” have made her a festival darling. Gabrielle, who’s cut her teeth on major studio gigs, is beginning to blaze her own trail as a director.
