Maurice A. Bellan is a Partner in the Washington, D.C. offi ce and is Regional Vice-Chair of Baker McKenzie’s North America Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice Group.
He also serves as Chair of the fi rm’s Litigation and Government Enforcement Hiring Committee and leads the Firm’s False Claims Act practice group. Mr. Bellan is a former criminal investigator and trial attorney at the US Department of Justice with over 20 years of complex investigative, civil, and criminal litigation experience. He provides his clients advice on a broad range of government regulatory fraud and anti-corruption matters and his practice is primarily focused on government contracts, the False Claims Act, FCPA compliance and due diligence and commercial litigation. His clients are primarily in the health care, government contracts, manufacturing and energy industries.
Maurice has defended corporate clients and individuals in enforcement actions pursued by several branches of government, including the DOJ, DoD, EPA, FinCEN and various US congressional committees. He also has a stellar record handling trials and appeals in several state, federal district and appellate courts, the US Tax Court, and the Court of Federal Claims in both civil and criminal matters.
