Franklyn G. Prendergast, M.D. is Emeritus Edmond and Marion Guggenheim Professor of
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Emeritus Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and
Experimental Therapeutics, Mayo Medical School.


Prendergast began his career at the Mayo Medical School as an Instructor in Physiology in
1975. In 1985, Prendergast became Consultant and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology for the Mayo Foundation and named Director of Research for Mayo Rochester in 1992. Prendergast retired from Mayo Clinic in December of 2014.


Prendergast has received numerous honors including Honorary Doctorates from Purdue University and University of the West Indies.


Prendergast holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physiology, a Master’s degree in Physiology from Oxford University, an M.D. degree from the University of the West Indies and a Doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota.
