Rhonda Mims elected to serve on regional board of directors
Rhonda Mims was elected to serve as a board member on the American Heart Association Greater Southeast Affiliate Board of Directors for the Association’s 2018-2019 fiscal year. The American Heart Association is the world’s leading voluntary organization with a mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
Mims is the senior vice president and chief public affairs officer at WellCare Health Plans, Inc., where she is responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s corporate communications, public policy and government affairs, corporate social responsibility, philanthropy, diversity and inclusion, employee volunteerism and brand management.
“The American Heart Association is blazing a new path in its efforts to cure cardiovascular diseases,” said Mims. “I look forward to bringing my expertise to the table to help the Association not only prevent, beat and treat heart disease and stroke, but to help ensure health equity and equality for all.”
Mims has been in leadership roles with the American Heart Association Greater Southeast Affiliate board for the past two years. The board services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
During the upcoming year, the board will focus on increasing the American Heart Association’s community involvement to make an impact on the health and wellbeing of residents throughout the Greater Southeast Affiliate, with a special focus on improving social determinants such as income, education and access to care that impact people’s overall health.
Mims has been acknowledged with numerous awards including CSR Executive of the Year, Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America, and recognized as Woman of the Year by multiple organizations.
Mims holds a juris doctor degree and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina.
