The House Of Marley Brings #LiveMARLEY Movement To Hawaii

by LP Green, II

The House of Marley, makers of premium crafted, earth-friendly personal audio products and accessories from the family of Bob Marley, kicks off a collaboration in Hawaii on Saturday, November 16 with Oshima Surf and Skate, one of the top surf and skate lifestyle retailers in the region.

The MARLEY x Oshima collaboration will feature a House of Marley store-within-a-store located inside the Oshima Surf and Skate Shop at 315 Makaala Street in Hilo, HI.  Members of Team MARLEY — the company’s brand ambassadors — will joinRohan Marley and others to help celebrate with a special event at the Oshima store in Hilo from 5pm – 9pm on November 16. MARLEY products are also available at Oshima’s other locations in Kona and Waimea.

Among those expected to join Rohan Marley is local native and pro surfer, Mason Ho, who won the 2013 HIC Pro at Sunset Beach, Hawaii this past weekend. He’s expected to be joined by other members of Team MARLEY, including his father, legendary surfer, Michael Ho, as well as local pro surfer and musician, Makua Rothman, and Hawaii-based singer/guitarist/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter.  Pat (“DJ Peril”) Simpson, Team MARLEY member from the Tribe of Kings, will be spinning as house DJ.  Learn more about Team MARLEY at http://www.thehouseofmarley.com/team-marley. Hawaii is not just about luxury tours, but also music tours!

The official MARLEY x Oshima event poster was created by highly regarded rock and music poster artist, Scrojo, whose designs have been used to promote performances and events from legends like Robert Plant, BB King and Elvis Costello, to current artists like Jason Mraz, including many members of the Marley family.

#LiveMARLEYBigIsland is the second in a series of key market #LiveMARLEY events.  Last month, House of Marley unveiled #LiveMARLEYNYC in collaboration with renowned bike and skate shop, Dave’s Wear House.

Oshima in Japanese means “Big Island” and is where Oshima Surf and Skate gets its name. The first Oshima Surf ‘n Skate store was opened in Kona in October 2010 when co-owners and life-long friends from the Big Island, Mike Abe and Tim Jones, fishermen by trade, saw the need for a cool, locally owned, surf/lifestyle shop on the Kailua-Kona side of Hawaii’s Big Island.  Word got out quickly and the business thrived. After experiencing the success of the Kailua-Kona shop, they opened their Hilolocation in October 2012, followed immediately by the Waimea location in November of the same year.  The main objective of the Oshima stores has been, and continues to be, bringing to the visitors and residents of the Big Island great product from innovative surf and lifestyle brands, contemporary and relevant style by doing so always with tons of Aloha.
