The trailblazing alumna brings visionary stewardship to ‘A Better Chance’, the nation’s oldest educational access organization.
Sheila Marmon has spent more than two decades innovating in the digital media industry. As the Founder and CEO of Mirror Digital, an award-winning company that helps leading brands tap into the fastest-growing consumer base -multicultural markets, she has been a pioneer. With over 1,000 digital campaigns completed for the likes of Amazon, AT&T, Disney, General Motors and others, along with an array of recognition from industry and civic organizations, her business success is just one part of her story. Marmon’s appointment as the first female Chair of the Board of Directors for A Better Chance reflects her personal passion for education and the empowerment of the next generation of diverse leadership.
Founded in 1963, A Better Chance is the preeminent organization for identifying, recruiting and developing leaders among underrepresented young people of color throughout the United States. The organization selects, prepares, places and supports high-performing middle and high school students of color in some of the most rigorous and prestigious independent day schools, boarding schools, and public schools in the country. As the nation’s oldest and only national organization solely dedicated to this mission, A Better Chance has impacted the lives of over 20,000 alumni and their families.
On October 21, 2024, Marmon’s journey came full circle when she took the stage at Gotham Hall in New York City at the A
Better Chance Benefit Dinner as the newly appointed Board Chair – as both an alumna of the program and the first woman to hold the role. Speaking to an audience of scholars, alumni, staff, and guests, Sheila shared her deeply personal connection to the organization and its mission, “As the first female Board Chair and a proud alumna of A Better Chance, I’m honored to help steward an organization that remains dedicated to empowering young leaders of color and creating educational opportunities that can transform lives. While ability is universal, opportunity is not-and that is why our work continues to be so vital.”
This commitment shared by the A Better Chance team, the Board of Directors, the Dinner Co-Chairs, donors, and esteemed Honorees delivered results. The event raised $1.3 million dollars COMMUNITY to help further the organization’s mission. The next edition of the benefit – the Kaleidoscope Ball, will be held on June 25, 2025 at Gotham Hall in New York City.
Marmon’s connection to A Better Chance began during her formative years when the program provided her with the opportunity to attend the Cate School in Carpinteria, California- an independent boarding school that opened doors to new
possibilities. An honors student first at Cate, then at Princeton University, and finally at Harvard Business School, she built a strong foundation for success. Her peers and mentors from A Better Chance provided guidance along her journey with access to internships, leadership development opportunities, and professional support.
Today as a founder and CEO in the competitive digital media industry, Marmon’s leadership at Mirror Digital has made the
company a standout. The company was named one of the “Fastest Growing Private Companies” by Inc. Magazine for two years in a row and recognized as a “Best Place to Work” by Ad Age, and the Los Angeles Business Journal among others. At Mirror Digital, Sheila and her team of 40 provide a platform for Fortune 100 brands to authentically engage with diverse consumers-a market that is shaping the future of business and our country.
