PG&E Corporation announced on June 10th that it selected Beveridge & Diamond Chairman Ben Wilson (Washington, DC) to join its newly-constituted Board of Directors. This comes at a critical time as PG&E emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy and transforms into a stronger company with improved operations, safety, and service to its customers and communities.
The new Board consists of 14 members, 11 of whom are new. The Board members bring expertise in key areas critical to the company’s work.
In its announcement, PG&E said, “Through his work litigating and advising clients on environmental issues as well as his service as Monitor for the Duke Energy coal ash spill remediation project and as Deputy Monitor in the Volkswagen emissions proceedings, Wilson brings extensive experience in workplace safety, relevant environmental and wildlife protection legislation, and the need for communication, accountability, and transparency in dealing with customers and regulators.”
“PG&E is very wise to have selected Ben to be a key advisor as a member of the distinguished new Board. His independence, judgment, adherence to the highest ethical standards, and knowledge of not only environmental, health, and safety issues but also corporate governance and compliance matters make him an ideal choice as the company begins this new chapter,” said Kathy Szmuszkovicz, B&D Managing Principal.
In addition to his legal practice and work on high-profile corporate monitorships and investigations, Ben offers an extensive track record of service on corporate and non-profit boards. He serves on the Board of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College, and the Board of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity where he currently serves as Secretary. He is also Chair of the Environmental Law Institute. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Elections and Ethics of the District of Columbia, was twice elected to the District of Columbia Bar Board of Governors, and was Co-Chair of the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs.
“I am honored to be a part of the talented and diverse team advising PG&E as it rebuilds trust with its customers, regulators, and other stakeholders while delivering on its important mission to provide safe and reliable energy to its 16 million customers in California,” Ben said.
