Leading Change
Marsh McLennan frequently shares expertise and advice with Congress through testimony and meetings to help shape US policies that promote workplace diversity & inclusion. Over the years, our commitment to diversity and inclusion has earned us recognition from organizations like Bloomberg and The Human Rights Campaign as a leading place to work with these priorities in mind. Internally, we seek to continuously learn, and to that aim, have established learning pathways that support our majority population to be more inclusive while in parallel targeting our diverse populations to ensure that they are receiving the support and development opportunities they deserve.

2020 was a year of reckoning. It was clear the company had to go even further to lead the change we want to see in the world. Our leadership announced commitments to deliver change within our company, to influence change with clients and to empower progress across Black communities. We look at these commitments as priorities we take with us into 2021 and beyond, recognizing it as a start to building a lasting foundation for diversity and inclusion at Marsh McLennan and within our communities.
Our Commitments
- “Safe Space” sessions with Black colleagues hosted by the Executive Committee, to listen, learn and understand what we can do better, as individuals and as an organization.
- The creation of a Race Advisory Council whose initial focus is on the Black community, and will continue to meet and advise our Executive Committee on a regular basis, to make sure that diverse perspectives are considered in all decision-making.
- Commitment to strengthen our diversity and inclusion measurement metrics and reporting across the company and to hold ourselves accountable for improvement and transparency.
- Renew our commitment to being a company where Black colleagues choose to join and choose to stay. Providing professional development opportunities for career progression and promotion, including a leadership development program.
- Initiatives to facilitate connection and empowerment among Black colleagues across the firm, including a dedicated platform for Black colleagues to share ideas and information.
- A commitment to hiring more Black colleagues at every level.
- Mandatory training on unconscious bias, allyship and inclusive leadership for every leader and manager.
- Establishment of a ring-fenced social justice fund to drive impact for Black communities. We look to support select organizations that advocate for equity for the Black community and double our match for donations our colleagues make to such organizations. An extraordinary team of colleagues from across the company is dedicated to identifying beneficiaries and opportunities to make real change.
