Ursula M. Burns is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of VEON, a leading global provider of connectivity and internet services headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Burns has served as Chairman of the VEON Board of Directors since July 2017 and as Executive Chairman since March 2018, during which time she has successfully introduced a simplified corporate structure, including a leaner operating model along with an increased focus on emerging markets.

Prior to VEON, Burns was Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Xerox Corporation. Burns is a Director of the Boards of ExxonMobil, Nestlé and Uber.

President Barack Obama appointed Burns to help lead the White House national program on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Burns also counsels other community, educational and non-profit organizations, including the Ford Foundation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Corporation.

Burns is a member of the National Academy of Engineers and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Burns holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
