Ted V. Wells Jr. co-chairs Paul, Weiss’s Litigation Department and is widely recognized as one of the nation’s best trial lawyers. The National Law Journal named Ted one of The Decade’s Most Influential Lawyers (2010) and Lawyer of the Year (2006).

 

Some of Ted’s significant representations include the defense of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Michael Espy; U.S. Secretary of Labor Raymond Donovan; U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli; hedge fund manager James Regan in the Princeton-Newport RICO prosecution; hedge fund manager Steven Cohen and SAC Capital Advisors; financier Michael Milken; I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby; and former New York Governors Eliot Spitzer and David Paterson.

 

Wells has led criminal and civil defense teams for major corporations, including Merck, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott Laboratories, JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Citigroup, Alcoa, Exxon Mobil, Mitsubishi, AIG and Philip Morris.

 

Wells is Chairman Emeritus of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Board of Directors and a Fellow of the Harvard Corporation, having graduated Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School in 1976. He is a life member of NACDL, a founding member of the New Jersey branch of NACDL and former co-chair of the NACDL White Collar Committee.
