Sean Decatur serves as President of the American Museum of Natural History. Previously, Decatur served as the 19th president of Kenyon College, was professor of chemistry and biochemistry and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Oberlin College from 2008 to 2013, and an assistant and associate professor of chemistry at Mount Holyoke College from 1995 to 2008, where he helped establish a top research program in biophysical chemistry.
Decatur was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2017 and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2019. He is a 1996 recipient of Research Corporation for Science Advancement’s prestigious Cottrell Scholar Award.
Decatur holds a Bachelor’s degree at Swarthmore College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a doctorate in biophysical chemistry at Stanford University.
