Ronald Machen, who has tried over 35 cases to verdict, has spent his entire career either prosecuting or defending high-stakes criminal and civil litigation matters. He began his career in government service in 1997 as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Machen subsequently became a Partner at WilmerHale in 2004 and in 2010 was confirmed as the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. He returned to WilmerHale in 2015 and has assisted Fortune 500 clients in navigating high stakes crisis situations that garner the attention of multiple regulators, enforcement authorities, Congress and private litigants.
Machen is currently litigating matters involving the state and federal False Claims Act, alleged breaches of contract, sexual discrimination and retaliation, federal patent infringement, and consumer fraud. He is a member of the fi rm’s global Management and Compensation Committees and Co-Chair of the fi rm’s Investigations and Criminal Litigation Practice Group.
In 2020, Machen was identified as a Criminal Law Trailblazer by the National Law Journal, recognized by Chambers USA for his white-collar crime and government investigations practice, and selected by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America for 2021-2022.
