Robert R. Simpson is the managing partner of the Hartford office of Shook, Hardy & Bacon.

A seasoned trial attorney with extensive experience in product liability litigation, Simpson’s practice focuses on pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, as well as toxic tort cases. He has served as first- or second-chair trial counsel in over 30 cases that have gone to verdict.

Simpson has also served as lead trial counsel, national counsel and local counsel for many global pharmaceutical and medical device companies, including Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiaries.

Simpson has held top leadership positions in the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation, the National Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association. He also serves as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and as a trial instructor for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the American Bar Association.

His many recognitions include the Distinguished Leaders Award from the Connecticut Law Tribune, the Trailblazer Award from the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association, and recognitions in Connecticut Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America.

Simpson earned an M.B.A. before earning his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
