Michael Matthews serves as Chief Diversity & Corporate Responsibility Officer for Synchrony.

In this role, Michael has been responsible for strategy development and execution for Synchrony’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Citizenship team.

Under Michael’s leadership, Synchrony has launched Advancing Diverse Talent (ADT), a data-driven methodology designed to enhance diverse representation at all levels of the company; the ADT – Leadership Institute, a premier training platform focused on the development and promotion of diverse talent; and Education as an Equalizer, the citizenship framework designed to expand access to higher education, skills training, and financial literacy to underserved communities.

Michael has over 25 years of HR experience, 20+ being with Synchrony where he’s held HR-ownership for various parts of the company.

Michael is a passionate advocate for creating a culture of inclusivity and authenticity. The company’s strong diverse culture is evidenced by the membership of more than 10,000 employees (60% of the workforce) in Synchrony’s eight Diversity Networks and the thousands of attendees at the annual Global Diversity Experience.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
