Lisa A. Tavares is a Partner in Venable’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group in Washington, DC, serves as co-chair of the firm’s Business Division, and sits on the firm’s Management Committee and Board. For more than 20 years, Lisa has advised public, private, and government employers on retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements. Her practice involves advising clients on ERISA compliance issues and employee benefit plan design and administration.
Tavares navigates issues related to mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, plan mergers, terminations, and transition and integration planning for employee benefit plans. As a former senior Internal Revenue Service attorney, she has extensive experience in handling government audits and investigations related to employee benefits plans.
Tavares is a Fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and has been recognized in Chambers USA and Legal 500 for Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation. She chairs the Venable Success Network, the firm’s affinity group for African American lawyers.
Tavares received her J.D. from Boston College Law School, her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, and her B.A from Spelman College in 1990.
