Laurel F. McGiffert is a Partner and the Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms. Following a nearly 40-year career as an accomplished trial attorney in the areas of medical malpractice, governmental law and employment liability, McGiffert transitioned into her current role. She focuses on diversifying the fi rm’s professional and support staff s as well as fostering an inclusive work environment.
McGiffert represents the fi rm as a member of the African American Partners Collaborative, a consortium of influential attorneys from some of metropolitan Detroit’s leading law fi rms, and she is a founding member of Plunkett Cooney’s Diversity Committee.
A graduate of Vassar College and Wayne State University Law School, McGiffert belongs to various professional organizations, including the Wolverine Bar Association and American Board of Trial Advocates. McGiffert serves on the Boards of Directors of Oakland Mediation Center and Power Company Kids Club. She has been recognized in multiple years by “Best Lawyers in America”® and Michigan “Super Lawyers” and by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of Michigan’s Notable Women Lawyers (2017), among numerous other awards and honors.
