Kermitt Brooks is Executive Vice President, General Counsel at The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian).
In this role, he’s responsible for managing Guardian’s enterprise-wide legal, compliance, corporate governance and government affairs functions. Brooks has more than 14 years of insurance experience in the industry and as a regulator.
Prior to joining Guardian, Brooks spent 10 years at AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company (Equitable), most recently as Senior Executive Director and General Counsel. In that capacity, he led the legal, regulatory, compliance and government relation function and was a member of the Management Committee of Equitable Holdings, Inc. Before that, he served as Deputy General Counsel of Equitable, where he expertly managed an array of complex state insurance and federal securities matters.
Earlier in his career, Brooks served as First Deputy Superintendent and Acting Superintendent for the New York State Insurance Department.
Brooks received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a contributing editor of the Michigan Law Review, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from James Madison College at Michigan State University.
