Kamau Coar is General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Heidrick & Struggles, a premier provider of executive search, leadership, team and organizational and team advisory services with operations around the globe.
In this role, Kamau is responsible for managing the company’s legal and regulatory matters as well as providing strategic counsel to the firm’s Management Committee and Board of Directors. He also oversees the firm’s enterprise risk management program, serves as the head of the firm’s compliance and ethics efforts and helps create and execute Heidrick’s enterprise-wide policies and practices.
In 2019, Kamau was recognized as a 2019 Notable General Counsel by Crain’s Chicago Business for his leadership and contributions to the legal community and is currently serving as Johns Hopkins University Leadership Fellow.
Kamau joined Heidrick in May 2012 and served in several senior positions, supporting the business in both Chicago and Singapore. Prior to joining Heidrick, Coar was a litigation partner at Ungaretti & Harris. Coar represents Heidrick on the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.
Kamau holds an undergraduate degree from the Johns Hopkins University and a Law degree from Duke University School of Law.
