John R. Thompson, Jr. was head coach of the Georgetown University men’s basketball team from 1972 until 1998, winning a national championship in 1984. Additionally, Thompson was
Head Coach of the 1988 United States Olympic basketball team, winning a Bronze medal in Seoul.


Thompson hosted a sports radio talk show in Washington, D.C. for 13 years, and is a nationally
broadcast sports analyst for Turner Network Television (TNT) and Dial Global, Inc.


Thomas holds the titles of Coach Emeritus and Presidential Consultant for Urban Affairs at
Georgetown University. Thompson was Past President of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and presently serves on its Board of Governors.


Thompson holds a Bachelor’s degree from Providence College in Economics and a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of the District of Columbia. Thompson has Honorary Doctorate degrees from Wheeling Jesuit University, Georgetown University, University of the District of Columbia, and St. Peter’s College.
