James H. Wooten, Jr., was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Illinois Tool Works, Inc. (ITW). Wooten began his career at ITW as a Senior Attorney providing legal counsel to the company’s decentralized business units around the world.
Previously, Wooten was elected to the position of Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
and was promoted to Senior Vice President. Wooten was responsible for legal, environmental and safety, risk management and governmental affairs, managing an annual legal budget in excess of $40 million dollars. Prior to joining ITW, Wooten was in private practice with Gardner, Carton and Douglas, which is now a part of Drinker, Biddle & Reath LLP.
Wooten is a member of the America and Chicago Bar Associations, Executive Leadership
Council (ELC) and The Black Corporate Directors Association.
Wooten holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois and a
Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago.
