Chonda J. Nwamu is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Ameren Corporation, a St. Louis-based public utility which powers the quality of life for 2.4 million electric and over 900,000 natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area throughout Missouri and Illinois.
Nwamu counsels on corporate strategy, governance, and disclosures, and is primary legal advisor to Ameren’s Board of Directors, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, and senior leadership team. Nwamu also leads the strategic vision for the General Counsel Function including Legal, Federal Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, and Enterprise Ethics and Compliance.
Before joining Ameren, Nwamu served as Managing Counsel at Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Nwamu is on the board of BellRing Brands, Inc. Her professional affiliations include Edison Electric Institute, General Counsel Litigation Advisory Committee; National Bar Association, Energy and Utilities Committee; and The Links, Incorporated, National Constitution and Bylaws Committee. In 2020, she was featured in Bloomberg Law’s The Black General Counsel Project and received the St. Louis Business Journal’s Corporate Counsel Award.
Nwamu earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Virginia.
