Cheryl L. Shavers serves as Chief Executive Officer of Global Smarts, Inc., an advisory services and strategy firm, which she founded in 2001 to assist companies and government agencies to manage growth opportunities and the innovative process. Additionally, she is a Distinguished Dean’s Professor at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.
Shavers was Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology for the U.S. Department of Commerce from November 1999 to February 2001 after having previously served as its Under Secretary designate. Prior to that, she held a variety of roles at Intel Corporation, including director of Emerging Technologies and sector manager of the Microprocessor Products Group for Intel Capital.
Shavers holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Solid State Chemistry from Arizona State University and was awarded an honorary Master’s degree in Engineering Management from California Polytechnic State University.
