Charles R. Patton is Executive Vice President, External Affairs for American Electric Power. In this role, Patton oversees the Fortune 200 electric energy company’s strategy to engage with key external stakeholders through customer services, communications, regulatory, federal public policy and corporate sustainability organizations.
Patton was appointed by former Texas Gov. George W. Bush to serve on the Texas Energy Coordination Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Former Gov. Rick Perry appointed Patton to the Texas Energy Planning Council. In 2017, he completed a term as director of the Fifth District Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond, VA, chairing the Information Technology Committee.
Patton serves on the boards of the National Association of Manufacturers and the United States Energy Association.
Patton is a graduate of Bowdoin College.
