Alexis M. Herman is the former Secretary of Labor and member of President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet. In this role, Herman led the U.S. Department of Labor while serving as a valuable member of the National Economic Council.
As Secretary, she focused on a prepared workforce, a secure workforce, and quality workplaces. Under her tenure, unemployment in the country reached a thirty-year low and the nation witnessed the safest workplace record in the history of the Department of Labor. Currently, Herman serves as Chair and Chief Executive Officer of New Ventures, LLC.
Herman has worked with a number of nonprofits including the National Urban League, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Dorothy I. Height Educational Foundation. Herman co-chaired the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund and was a Member of the Board of Directors for the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
Herman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Xavier University of Louisiana.
