Joiava Philpott is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Cox Enterprises, overseeing the legal matters for Cox Communications including regulatory and government affairs, media advertising, commercial operations, broadband, voice and wireless, video, content acquisition and new growth strategy.
Prior to joining Cox, Philpott served as General Counsel of AstroTurf and earlier worked for Charter Communications as Corporate Vice President and Senior Counsel of government affairs, and KMC Telecom as Assistant General Counsel. She began her career with the City of Atlanta’s Law Department, advising on municipal rights-of-way, cable franchising, and telecommunications law.
Philpott has served in various leadership, nonprofit board, and volunteer roles including the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Federal Communications Bar Association, YWCA of Greater Atlanta, and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.
Philpott has received the Distinguished Alumni award from American University’s Washington College of Law and is an alumna of Leadership Atlanta.
Philpott received a B.S. degree in Business Management from Hampton University and her J.D. and MBA from American University.
