Vanessa S. Johannes is a member of Carlton Fields’ White Collar, Investigations and Compliance practice group. She also serves as the Co-Managing Shareholder of the firm’s Miami office (100+ attorneys and staff) and leads the firm’s Minority Lawyers Business Network affinity group.
Vanessa’s clients include major corporations, including NextEra Energy Inc., Florida Power & Light, Independent Purchasing Cooperative, and Q Link Wireless Co., as well as sophisticated business executives and leaders.
Vanessa’s work often involves advising clients on navigating government inquiries and investigations, conducting internal investigations, creating programs to ensure compliance with regulatory provisions and federal and state laws, and, when necessary, staunching defending clients in court and at trial.
Prior to Carlton Fields, Vanessa was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of FL.
As a Guyanese-born American, Vanessa is a member of the Gwen S. Cherry Bar Association and Caribbean Bar Association. In 2023, Vanessa was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Federal Bar Association’s South Florida Chapter and the Miami-Dade County Beacon Council.
Vanessa received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law and her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
