Nesty, who made history as the first Black male swimmer to clinch an Olympic gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Games while representing Suriname, continues to break barriers. In 2022, he became the inaugural Black coach to lead a U.S. team at the world championships.
Reprising Their Roles from Budapest
Nesty and DeSorbo, the University of Virginia coach, are set to reprise their roles from the Budapest worlds, where Nesty steered the men’s team and DeSorbo led the women’s group.
