Pia Flanagan is Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Assistant General Counsel at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, a Fortune 100 mutual life insurance company that is run for the benefit of its members and participating policy owners.
In this role, Flanagan is responsible for ensuring that the best corporate governance practices are consistently monitored and maintained by the company. She works closely with the company’s Board of Directors and oversees all aspects of the Board, Committee and Annual meeting processes. In addition to this role, Flanagan leads the team of lawyers responsible for corporate and investment tax and employee benefit matters.
Prior to joining MassMutual in July 2013, Flanagan was a partner at global law firm Baker & McKenzie, where she advised clients on the legal, tax and regulatory aspects of employee benefit plans and executive and incentive compensation arrangements, and matters pertaining to pension, compensation and benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions.
Flanagan holds a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law, Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from New York University School of Law, and Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.
