Alex Shumate is Managing Partner, North America for Squire Patton Boggs. In this role, Shumate provides strategic and operational guidance in pursuing new business opportunities regionally, nationally and internationally and in addressing issues arising from the firm’s 18 offices across the Americas.
Previously, Shumate served as Chief Counsel and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of the
State of Ohio and Assistant Attorney General to the State of Ohio.
Shumate’s community activities include serving on The Ohio State University Board of Trustees,
where Shumate serves as Board Chairman. Shumate also serves on the Boards of the Capitol South Redevelopment Corporation and Wexner Center for the Arts. Shumate was named a 2016 “Ohio Super Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters, a distinction honoring the top 5 percent of lawyers in the state.
Shumate holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Akron.
