A. Barry Rand was Chief Executive Officer of AARP. In this role, Rand served as a transformational CEO of AARP, the world’s largest nonprofit, membership organization between 2009- 2014. Previously, Rand was the CEO of Avis Group Holdings. Rand reinvented Avis from the second largest car rental company into a global leader in vehicle management solutions. Prior to Avis, Rand had a thirty-year career at Xerox Corporation.
Rand has served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Howard University since 2006. Rand has also served on the Board of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.
Rand established the Helen Matthews Rand Endowed Scholarship, a $1.5 million program at
the Howard University School of Education named in honor of his late mother, a Washington, D.C., public school principal, to encourage students to enter teaching careers in urban school areas.
Rand holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University and an MBA from Stanford
University.
