VH1 premiered a first look at the highly anticipated film, Drumline: A New Beat.
The film is a sequel to 2002’s Drumline; Nick Cannon, Zoe Saldana and Orlando Jones starred in the original.
The VH1 original film follows Alexandra Shipp, who plays a talented drummer who aspires to become the first female percussion section leader in the famous Atlanta A&T drumiline.
Also joining the cast is former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett who portrays the beautiful determined Atlanta A&T Dean of Students, Dr. Nia Phillips.
Nick Cannon is also executive producing the movie and reclaiming his role as Devin Miles in a cameo.
Drumline: A New Beat is set to premiere on VH1 this fall.
VH1 released a statement saying: A New Beat will capture the sound and spirit of the first film while welcoming a whole new class to the Atlanta A & T drumline. The story follows Danielle (Dani) Bolton, an upper class Brooklyn girl who defies her parents in order to attend Atlanta A & T so she can join – and revitalize – their once-prominent drumline.
Shipp is also set to star in Lifetime’s new Aaliyah bio pic.
