Showtime to air documentary on Allen Iverson

by LP Green, II

Showtime plans to debut a documentary on former Philadelphia 76ers great Allen Iverson next month.

The film “Iverson” will air on the premium cable channel May 16 after a debut at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival.

Iverson led the Sixers to the 2001 NBA finals, won four scoring titles, clashed with former coach Larry Brown, and was an All-Star game fixture. Iverson’s years in Philadelphia were marred by arrests in 1997 for carrying a concealed weapon and for possession of marijuana and in 2002 over a domestic dispute with his wife.

The documentary addresses all parts of Iverson’s life and includes interviews with Brown, former Georgetown coach John Thompson and NBC journalist Tom Brokaw.

In one of sports’ all-time classic rants, Iverson had a blowup at the end of the 2002 season where he repeated the word “practice” nearly 20 times.
