Rappers Lil Wayne and Birdman’s teenage daughters visited New Orleans this past weekend with their fathers. While the two rap stars are extremely popular, it was these two young ladies who were greeting fans and signing autographs at the Essence Festival.
Reginae Carter is the 14-year-old daughter of Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Carter, and also the co-author alongside 16-year-old Bria Williams, daughter of Bryan “Birdman” Williams.
The two have collaborated on their teen novel, “Paparazzi Princesses”, which is a fictional account of stories based on characters and life experiences of the two young ladies.
“It’s about the ups and downs of having celebrity parents,” Reginae Carter said. “It’s about how we go through everyday drama like everybody else.”
The two hope their book will inspire more teens to indulge in leisure reading.
“Every book is not everybody’s choice,” Carter said, adding that she likes the idea of book clubs, where teens can get together and read the same thing. “We hope they’ll read ours.”
The book explores the privileges and challenges of being hip-hop stars children. Throughout the novel the characters learn how to shuffle red carpet events, school and relationships with friends and their parents all while trying to discover their own identities through the overshadowing of their father’s larger than life musical careers.
Both girls signed copies of their book Saturday at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. This location also housed the Essence Festival’s numerous seminars on health, beauty, relationships and education.
The teens’ book tour is scheduled to continue in other cities throughout the duration of the summer.
