Lisa A. Tavares is a Partner in Venable’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice in Washington, D.C.
For more than 20 years, Tavares has advised both private and public employers on retirement plans, health and welfare plans and non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements. Her practice involves advising clients on ERISA compliance issues and employee benefit plan design and administration.
Tavares also works with companies on employee benefit issues arising in mergers and acquisitions. As a former senior Internal Revenue Service attorney, she has extensive experience in handling government audits and investigations related to employee benefits plans.
Tavares is a Fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. She has been recognized in Chambers USA as an Up and Comer for Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation in Washington, D.C., in Legal 500 for Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation, and by Super Lawyers for Employee Benefits/ERISA in Washington, D.C.
Tavares received her J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1995, her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002, and her B.A. from Spelman College in 1990.
