Lilton (Tony) R. Taliaferro, Jr. is Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and Assistant Corporate Secretary for Independence Blue Cross, LLC (Independence), a subsidiary of Independence Health Group based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Independence affiliates AmeriHealth Insurance Company of New Jersey and AmeriHealth HMO.
In these capacities, he provides counsel to Independence and subsidiary executives and boards of directors on corporate governance as well as advice on state and federal health care laws; corporate transactions; and marketing, provider, and operational matters.
Tony represents the AmeriHealth New Jersey subsidiaries before governmental agencies on a regular basis. He is Chair of the New Jersey Small Employer Health Benefits Program Board and a member of Individual Health Coverage Board. Tony serves as counsel to the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.
Tony is a Board Member and past Co-president of the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army KROC Center. He participates in the Philadelphia Bar Association Advanced Civics Education program as a classroom instructor at Roxborough High School.
