Leslie T. Thornton has held her senior executive position at WGL Holdings since 2012. She oversees all legal functions, sits on the CEO’s Strategy Council and co-chairs WGL’s Security Committee. WGL is a energy solutions company whose operations include Washington Gas, a highly regulated natural gas utility public company serving Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Currently, Ms. Thornton is helping lead WGL through its $6.4 billion merger.

 

Prior to WGL, Thornton was a Partner in two Washington, D.C. law fi rms. She has extensive public sector experience, including senior leadership positions in the Clinton Administration: legal counsel in the vetting group of the 1992 Presidential Transition, Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Education, and Deputy Advisor for the 1996 Presidential Debates, among others.

 

Thornton has received numerous recognitions, including the 2017 Black Enterprise 300 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America and the 2017 Burton Legend in Law Award.

 

Thornton holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from Georgetown University Law, and a LL.M. in National Security Law from Georgetown Law.
