Claude E. Bailey is a member of Venable LLP’s State and Local Government practice group. His work focuses on advising clients on matters that require interaction with the District of Columbia government.

 

Claude’s clients have included major corporations, such as Marriott International, Hilton, Walmart, Uber, AECOM, Fannie Mae, and Monumental Sports and Entertainment (the ownership group for the Washington Wizards and Capitals). His work for clients has involved government relations, public finance, public-private partnerships, real estate development, and a number of local regulatory issues.

 

Prior to joining Venable, Mr. Bailey held a number of significant legal positions within the District government. While employed there, he was the principal legal officer responsible for the three largest projects undertaken by the District: the Verizon Center (now Capital One Arena), the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and the Washington Nationals Ballpark.

 

Mr. Bailey also clerked for the Honorable Damon J. Keith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

 

Mr. Bailey is an honors graduate of the Howard University School of Law. He also holds a B.A. in Political Science from Morehouse College.
