Ashanté L. Smith is a Partner in Troutman Sanders’ Multifamily Housing Finance practice and specializes in nationwide lender representation for multifamily and commercial loan transactions intended to be securitized in the secondary market. Smith has extensive experience with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac single project loans as well as multiple project portfolios, having acted as lead counsel in more than $3.4 billion of agency loans in 2017 alone.
Smith plays an active role in the Firm’s hiring and mentoring of diverse attorneys through positions on its Women’s Network and Leadership Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and Hiring Committee.
Having received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia, Smith remains active with her alma mater, including having served on UVA’s Law Alumni Council from 2014-2017, and as the Scholarship Committee Co-Chair on the national board of The Ridley Scholarship Fund from 2014-2017, a program that helps attract some of the nation’s most accomplished and well-rounded African-American scholars to the University of Virginia.
