After a thorough search, Johns Hopkins HealthCare hired Dr. Marketa Wills as Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Wills starts on October 19. In her new role, Dr. Wills will help JHHC optimize clinical and quality outcomes for health plan members while driving efforts to efficiently manage costs of care. The CMO:
- Oversees Pharmacy, Utilization Management, Care Management, and Quality Improvement departments, and other areas of medical management and health services
- Helps to set and enforce medical policies and standards for health care services provided to plan members
- Collaborates with fellow JHHC leaders to develop and implement plans and objectives for growth
- Focuses on the health plans’ work to foster collaboration and innovation in achieving member centered, high quality and efficient care
Dr. Wills earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed a residency in adult psychiatry at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital program, serving as chief resident in her last year. She also has a master’s in business administration from the Wharton School of Business. Dr. Wills has worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company; served as the director of physician affairs at the TMC campus of Memorial Hermann Hospital System where she oversaw the Medical Staff Office and physician recruitment, contracting and onboarding; and most recently served as senior medical director for WellCare Health Plans, where she led the clinical strategy team responsible for optimizing clinical and quality outcomes for patients, oversaw the NCQA accreditation team, and served in enterprise quality leadership roles.
With her expertise in driving value-based, member-centric care in managed health care programs across broad organizations, her deep understanding of the clinical aspects of the health care delivery system, her experience with government-sponsored health care, and her sharp analytical, financial and business acumen, Dr. Wills is the ideal leader to steer JHHC’s Health Services team.
