Broadening CALIBR’s brand after 20 years of success

by cdawkins

As the new President and Chief Executive Officer of CALIBR Global Leadership Network, Tim Foy has first-hand knowledge of the tremendous work the organization has done over the last two decades to benefit current and future Black leaders in corporate America. CALIBR’s mission is to accelerate the senior leadership readiness for high-potential Black executives through relevant, cutting-edge training, coaching, and networking opportunities. Its track record of leadership development has caught the eye of several corporations across the country. As a result, 30 of its members have joined the Executive Leadership Council.

When taking this great history into consideration, Tim looks forward to the challenge of leading CALIBR into its next phase of growth. Tim joined the organization (then the NextGen Network) in 2010 and worked behind the scenes with the leadership to develop the organizational strategy before serving in secretary and vice president roles. As a longstanding member, Tim has played a major part in the organization’s evolution and now seeks to broaden the brand as well as increase the value proposition for members and their sponsoring companies. His vision for the future of CALIBR is to create programming that helps its members develop leadership to legacy in 1) their corporate careers, 2) their respective communities, and 3) within their families.

  • For corporate careers, the focus will be helping members find impactful exposure opportunities that showcase their leadership expertise. “We want to help members position themselves to have a positive impact on their organizations,” says Tim. “Members should leave a long-lasting legacy of results for their companies while broadening their personal and professional footprint.”
  • In their respective communities, the leadership skills and expertise that have been amassed during a successful corporate career should be used to help local organizations and individuals thrive. Members will be encouraged to identify and partner with non-profit organizations or establish foundations where they can use what they gained in corporate America to establish a legacy in communities that matter to them.
  • At home, CALIBR will help members transition out of corporate America to whatever may be next for them and their families. This starts with a focus on long-term health and wellness to ensure every member is mentally and physically fit. Doing so not only guarantees they’ll be around for their loved ones, but it also provides corporate benefits as it mitigates the risk of early-career burnout among talented executives with high-stress roles. Lastly, CALIBR will continue to help members see a path toward entrepreneurship and invest wisely in business opportunities that can create generational wealth for their families.

The leadership-to-legacy focus will be key in helping the next wave of executive talent reach overall success in corporate America and beyond. CALIBR’s experience in developing successful Black executives indicates that those who align with the leadership-to- legacy concept tend to have longer, more fulfilling careers. Tim is a prime example of this. He has made a career of taking intelligent, professional risks and opting for unpopular corporate opportunities where he knew his skills could successfully lead initiatives in the U.S. and abroad. Many of his professional experiences helped prepare him to be a mentor to young men in the Philadelphia community where he grew up. And Tim now works to foster entrepreneurship at home with his wife and children as they work together on various investment and business opportunities.

It is clear that leadership development for the next generation of Black C-suite executives is something that Tim takes personally in his role as President of CALIBR. Working with an extremely talented leadership team and fantastic corporate partners, he plans to put his personal touch on the future of CALIBR, and we are anxious to see the results.
